A golden retriever named Sammie has captivated the internet. Her adorable and fluffiness combined with her fun-loving (and slightly soggy) antics on her early birthday present – a giant waterslide in her yard, have endeared her to viewers.

The blissful moment was filmed and shared on TikTok by the owner under the username @lifewithgoldens7. The heartwarming clip shows the delighted pup jumping up and down the slide, creating huge splashes of water – so massive that they drench everyone, including her owner.

“One month before my dog’s birthday… so I got her a waterslide,” the text on the clip reads. The caption sweetly adds, “Happy early birthday Sammie.”

While Sammie loves water, not all dogs share her enthusiasm. Some canines are actually quite afraid of water, especially when too close to it.

Dog wellness experts suggest that if a dog’s only experience with water is a stressful bath time, then it’s quite possible they may not enjoy water elsewhere. Additionally, if they have never encountered a body of water larger than a bathtub, the unfamiliarity might be overwhelming.

The temperaments and personalities of dogs also influence their water preference. “Some dogs are more anxious, generally speaking, and others aren’t inclined to take risks like diving into a suspicious new substance,” according to a pet resource website.

Fortunately, there are strategies to assist dogs in overcoming this fear. The key is to proceed slowly and avoid forcing the dog into the water. Offering treats as positive reinforcement can be beneficial, along with beginning in calm waters to reduce potential fear.
