Jesse Eisenberg, known for his roles in film, revealed on the TODAY show that he will soon donate one of his kidneys to someone he has never met. He described his decision as an act of altruistic donation, set to take place in mid-December.

“I’m actually donating my kidney in six weeks,” he shared. “I really am.”

The actor spoke about how the process helps those in need, even if donors and recipients are not directly matched. He learned that this type of donation can benefit many through the donor network system.

“It’s essentially risk-free and so needed,” Eisenberg said. “I think people will realize that it’s a no-brainer, if you have the time and the inclination.”

Eisenberg said a recent conversation with a doctor friend led him to NYU Langone Health, where testing confirmed he could move forward. He is now scheduled for surgery in a few weeks.

According to health organizations, around 90,000 individuals currently await a kidney transplant in the United States.

To ease concerns, Eisenberg explained that programs exist to prioritize family members if they ever need a kidney. He has ensured his loved ones are on this priority list, helping give peace of mind to donors.

He also spoke of his fondness for blood donation, saying he finds it rewarding to give in any way possible. “I just have so much blood in me, and I feel like I should spill it,” Eisenberg joked. “I really like doing it, and I don’t know why.”
