Thirteen years ago, Brad and Anita, two young romantics, decided to encapsulate a moment of their love in a unique way.

During a delightful picnic on Bell Island in 2012, they penned a letter and sealed it within a blue glass wine bottle.

“Today we enjoyed dinner, this bottle of wine and each other on the edge of the island,” Anita captured in her words, as Brad, then a novice police officer, launched the bottle into the waters of Conception Bay.

Fast forward to July 7th, when Kate and Jon Gay stumbled upon this bottled message on the Maharees Peninsula in Ireland, over 1,800 miles from its origin.

That evening, they gathered with members of their local conservation society to unveil the letter and were eager to contact its authors.

In a delightful twist, Martha Farrell, a local, quickly confirmed that Brad and Anita were not only still in love but had since married and started a family.

“And then I said, ‘Yay, love conquers all—and the Atlantic Ocean!’” Farrell joyfully remarked.

The couple, who tied the knot in 2016, are set to celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary next year, alongside their three children.

Coincidentally, the Maharees Conservation Association, co-founded by Farrell, will also mark its 10th anniversary.

“Anita and I both feel like we have new friends, and we’re all equally amazed,” Brad shared, hinting at future travel plans to meet their newfound friends across the sea.

This charming story is a reminder of the connections that can be forged through the simplest of gestures, bridging gaps across time and space.
