Neglected “Untouchable” Dog Without Name Now Enjoys Cuddles

  • A neglected dog suffered from a painful skin disease that made him scared to be touched.
  • He was rescued, brought back to health, and put up for adoption.
  • His human dad now gives the dog cuddles which the pup now welcomes and relishes.

The story starts with a young dog named Kong who was so neglected, he suffered from a painful skin disease and a sunburn.  His condition was so excruciating that he cannot bear to be touched.

When he was taken in by the Border Collie Rescue and Rehab in Prosper, Texas, this was when his journey to better health and a new life began.  But he still had no name.  At the rescue’s website, he was just known as #387.

But having no name did not matter to Curtis Hartsell.  He fell head over heels for the big smile and curious eyes of the little white dog.

According to Hartsell, “I looked through his profile and just immediately fell in love with his single picture and the description they put on the page. His foster mom described his temperament and personality and I described my life to her a bit and she said we sounded perfect for each other.”

Hartsell is a cyber threat intelligence analyst and lived an active lifestyle.  So, even if he had doubts if his active lifestyle could fit in having a dog, he submitted an application for #387.

From the beginning he had a feeling that the dog was his and that they had to go through the whole process of adoption for them to be reunited.  The people at the rescue were helping them get together again.

He was filled with excitement to have #387 that he asked for daily updates.

When his application was finally approved and it was time to meet, his first step to giving the dog a fresh start, was to give him a name.

Hartsell recalled, “I was handed his leash … I got down in front of him and gave him his new name and asked if he wanted to come home with me. ‘ZIB, I’m going to call you ZIB. Do you like that? How would you like to come home with me, ZIB?’ He was sitting in front of me, looked into my eyes and then hugged me and bowed his head. It was adorable; I’ll never forget that moment.”

Now that ZIB has found his forever home with Hartsell, he gets unlimited cuddles and touches.  From being untouchable, he now relishes the physical love that his owner gives him.

Hartsell said, “All he wanted was to be loved and that I get to give him that love every day now, it’s incredible.”

For the two, it has become a mutual ‘saving’ society.  Each found the love that they needed.
