Quick Smiles:

  • Drew Scanlon, known as “Blinking Guy,” became a viral meme sensation.
  • He uses his popularity to raise funds for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
  • Scanlon’s efforts have helped generate $300,000 for MS research and support.

Drew Scanlon unexpectedly became internet-famous after a memorable moment on a 2013 video game livestream, where his expressive face was captured and transformed into the beloved “Blinking Guy” meme.

Rather than just basking in online fame, Scanlon has chosen to make a difference by taking part in a yearly 120-mile bike ride from San Francisco to Napa, raising money in honor of his friend Katie and her mother, both affected by multiple sclerosis.

“A lot of times it doesn’t feel like me, because I didn’t really have anything to do with it, besides the fact that it’s my face.”

Each year since 2016, he has shared his journey on his Blinking Guy social media pages, rallying donations for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

“I’ve just been floored by the response,” he shared, after raising an impressive $300,000 to help fund MS research and support services for those living with the condition.

It’s inspiring to see how a lighthearted internet moment can spark lasting, meaningful change in the real world. Keep looking for the goodness—sometimes it’s just a blink away.
