Quick Smiles:

  • A 4-year-old’s 911 call sparked an unforgettable police visit.
  • Officers turned the call into a joyful learning and birthday celebration.
  • Gifts, games, and kindness left lasting memories for two young brothers.

After laundry day, Ken Porter discovered that his young son, Micah, had called 911 to chat with the police about soccer and swimming.

“When I returned the call, I learned that my 4-year-old had called 911 and struck up a conversation about soccer and swimming,” Micah’s father said.

Instead of scolding, Farmington Hills police responded with warmth, inviting Micah and his brother Mitch to explore patrol cars and test out police equipment.

Micah excitedly shared that Mitch’s seventh birthday was the next day, prompting the officers to plan something special.

The following morning, almost ten police cars lined the street while officers wished Mitch a happy birthday, gifting him with a sticker badge and a toy police hat.

The kindness continued later in the evening when another group of officers returned with a soccer net and played a game with the kids, even introducing them to their K9, Kane.

“This simple act of kindness transformed into a story of empathy, joy, and community my sons will never forget,” said Mr. Porter.
