  • Noah the bear, once confined, now indulges in a week-long nap.
  • Rescue efforts bring joy and relief to a previously neglected bear.
  • Community support is sought to aid Noah’s ongoing recovery.

A Syrian brown bear named Noah has found a new lease on life after enduring over two years in a cramped and unsanitary cage.

Rescued from his 15 x 20-foot prison, where he was kept “for entertainment” purposes, Noah’s journey to freedom began on March 5.

The four-year-old bear, bred in captivity, weighed around 100kg (220 lbs) and was subjected to harsh weather conditions, standing on a waste-covered floor that left his paws sore.

The rescue mission was a collaborative effort involving various animal welfare organizations and local authorities.

Police and local emergency services joined forces to cut open the welded cage door, finally allowing Noah to step out into a brighter future.

Upon his arrival at a rescue center, Noah was introduced to an enclosure filled with vegetation, offering him a cozy haven to rest.

“He was led to an enclosure with plenty of vegetation for bedding, so the stressed youngster could snuggle up and sleep for a week.”

A video captures the bear’s delight as he snuggles into the straw—much like a panda frolicking in snow.

The organizations involved in Noah’s rescue are actively seeking financial support to cover the costs of his stay at the rescue center, which is estimated at £2,500 ($3,200) for a year.

“The commitment to Noah’s safety has been unwavering. However, Noah requires expert veterinary services and monitoring to start his recovery process. We need the public’s help to fund it.”

Noah’s story sheds light on the plight of approximately 80 bears in Armenia, who remain in captivity at various establishments.

The ongoing rescue initiative continues to advocate for these animals, aiming to bring them the freedom they deserve.
