She frequents Echo Lake Park in Virginia for relaxation, but one recent walk took a frightening turn when she suddenly lost consciousness.

After waking up in the hospital, Melinda learned she had suffered cardiac arrest and survived because a bystander jumped in to help.

“I was not breathing, no pulse, and unconscious,” Pereira recalled.

First responders shared that a woman, likely a nurse, initiated CPR without hesitation—a gesture that ultimately saved Melinda’s life.

“They said if everything hadn’t lined up the way it did, it would’ve been a different outcome,” Melinda shared.

Returning to Echo Lake Park, she hopes to meet her rescuer face-to-face to express her gratitude.
