Quick Smiles:

  • A stray pit bull guided a stranger to two people in need.
  • Both lives were saved thanks to quick action and intuition.
  • The caring rescuer is looking after the heroic pup until a reunion.

What began as an ordinary evening for Gary Thynes quickly became unforgettable when he encountered a pit bull urgently seeking attention in a Pittsburgh park.

The determined dog’s leash trailed behind as he kept approaching Gary, barking, then running a few paces ahead before returning.

“Something put the idea in my head, VERY STRONGLY, that this dog wanted me to follow him,”

Gary shared in a Facebook post.

Trusting his instincts, Gary and a woman who stopped to help followed the dog along a secluded route behind the train tracks, where they discovered two tents.

There, Gary saw a man unresponsive on a red couch, prompting him to call 911. First responders soon found another person nearby who also needed urgent help.

Both individuals were quickly transported to the hospital, thanks to the relentless efforts of their loyal pet and the rescuers.

As someone in recovery himself, Gary felt moved by the pit bull’s devotion.

“As someone in recovery myself, I know how important the unconditional love of your dog can be, and how much love they have for you, even at your worst,”

he said.

Worried about the future of the brave dog, Gary learned he might be sent to a distant shelter, so he offered his own home as a safe haven until the pup’s owners could recover.

The woman who assisted revealed she was a social worker familiar with the rescued pair and planned to reassure them about their pet’s safety.

Gary remains committed to caring for the pit bull—affectionately called “the little hero”—until his humans are able to welcome him back home.

“This experience has been surreal. It only reaffirms to me that God is real and he speaks to you… if you choose to listen; and I’m so glad that I did.”

Gary wrote.

This inspiring tale demonstrates the incredible bond between people and their pets and reminds us of the hope that shines in everyday heroes.
