Quick Smiles:

  • Quirky art signs blend into official Christchurch streets.
  • Artist Cameron Hunt aims to create confusion and delight.
  • The city supports the use of humor in public spaces.

In Christchurch, six clever art installations are turning heads by masquerading as standard public signs, each displaying an unexpected message. From “slightly haunted” warnings to a playful walking speed limit, these signs use humor to surprise pedestrians.

Cameron Hunt, the creative mind behind the project for the Little Street art festival, designed these installations to challenge perceptions of authority found in everyday signage.

“The idea was to make signs that look official, but with completely absurd messages, therefore creating moments of confusion, followed by little bursts of joy,” Hunt said.

Kiri Jarden, principal adviser for community arts, shared, “We totally support artists using humor to gently interrupt and engage passersby.”

The signs have delighted both locals and online audiences, sparking lively discussions about art in public spaces and drawing smiles across the city.

If these creative signs brightened your day, share the fun with friends and spread a little joy!
