Quick Smiles:

  • Renee9 Rapp passionately embraces her favorite TV show
  • Openness and authenticity inspire the LGBTQ+ community
  • Imagination sparks hope for future guest star dreams

Renee9 Rapp, multitalented performer and genuine “Law & Order: SVU” enthusiast, never misses a chance to gush about her favorite series starring Mariska Hargitay as Captain Olivia Benson. Even while preparing for her upcoming “Bite Me Tour,” Rapp loves to unwind by watching episodes of the long-running procedural drama.

Her devotion is no secret. In a recent chat on Amy Poehler’s “Good Hang” podcast, she joyfully mentioned both Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni (the show’s original dynamic detective duo), sharing, “I love them.” She even admitted, with a laugh, “And I also kind of think Christopher Meloni is f—— jacked.”

When visiting TODAY, Rapp’s enthusiasm was just as infectious. As a guest for the “8 Before 8” series, she lit up when a question about “SVU” popped up. In her own words:

“Whoever came up with this question, I just want to say thank you so much. You’ve done more for my community than you can even imagine. And my community is just me, really.”

Yet Renee9’s positive impact goes well beyond TV fandom. She recently came out as a lesbian during a “Saturday Night Live” sketch in January 2024—embracing her true self, after previously identifying as bisexual. This openness and joy have solidified her as a beloved figure among LGBTQ+ fans and allies, who often call themselves “young ex-wives,” referencing a playful lyric in her song “Colorado.”

When asked what dream role she would play on “SVU,” Rapp’s reply was both bold and heartfelt.

“Let me tell ya, I would be — Mariska Hargitay’s lover. She would be gay, finally.”

Her answer was filled with good humor and excitement, showing both her fandom and playful imagination. Rapp even showed off her “SVU” expertise by recalling an episode from Season 11, where guest star Kathy Griffin played a lesbian activist and shared a memorable on-screen moment with Hargitay’s character. Rapp recounted:

“There was an episode where they were talking about it and considering if she was gay,” she said, before referencing a classic exchange about Benson’s romantic life. In the episode, Benson and her partner Stabler talk about whether Benson gives off a ‘gay vibe,’ with plenty of fun banter and dramatic tension.

Confidently, Rapp concluded, “I would be her lover, and we would somehow get tangled in, like, an undercover kind of miss(ion), probably with a drug empire.”

This confidence, humor, and genuine love for the show light up every room she’s in. Renee9’s “Bite Me Tour” launches in September, just in time for “SVU” fans to watch both her musical journey and the 27th season of their favorite series.
