Rescued Pup Roy Finds Happiness by the Sea
Quick Smiles:
- Roy, a Staffordshire terrier-cross, is thriving after rescue from abuse.
- Months of care led him from fear to joy and a loving home.
- His new family made multiple visits to earn his trust before adoption.
Roy’s journey from distress to happiness began when the RSPCA rescued him following a report of abuse caught on video. He suffered no lasting physical injuries, but his emotional wounds were deep.
“Thankfully he didn’t sustain any long-lasting injuries despite his horrific attack, but his mental distress was clear,” stated a popular Facebook post.
After several months of gentle rehabilitation, Roy left his traumatic past behind. By July, staff at the Lancashire East RSPCA branch saw him playing and enjoying treats, transforming into a lively, affectionate companion.
Sue Abraham, fostering coordinator, shared: “I do remember on the first day he came through the door and he was just so terrified he laid down on the door mat and didn’t want to move. It was heartbreaking to see.”
“But a week or two later he had come out of his shell—and we were socializing him in reception and he was running around playing and enjoying treats from staff.”
Roy’s adoption journey was heartwarming. Daniel Wilson Woodward and his husband, Jason Woodward Wilson, visited Roy about eight times to build trust. Their patience and care ensured that Roy would feel safe and loved with their family.
Roy quickly bonded with his new canine siblings, Betty and Archie. On his first night, he cuddled up with his new family, signaling he felt truly at home.
“We were all watching a film that evening and he just jumped on the [couch] and cuddled up to us—like he had a sense of relief and knew things were now going to be happy for him,” Daniel said.
With a playful spirit, Roy enjoys chasing balls and anticipating dinner time with a happy spin. His joyful routines are a testament to how far he’s come.
“He has brought so much happiness into our lives—he is so playful and loves chasing a ball but is so fast he can’t stop in time to catch it,” Daniel added.
Roy is now surrounded by love and security, fully embracing his second chance. “We were obviously upset to hear about his past but we know he can put that firmly behind him now thanks to the work of the RSPCA,” said Daniel. “We would always advocate that people adopt from rescues rather than buying a new pet.”
Roy’s story reminds us that with compassion and patience, a bright future is possible for every rescue animal. If you’re feeling inspired, consider supporting your local animal shelter or spreading kindness in your community today!
