Papa, a four-year-old pit bull, has spent over half his life at the Benton Franklin Humane Society, winning hearts online with his cheerful support of other dogs’ adoptions. Even after more than 900 days in shelter, he continues to radiate hope and happiness, wagging his tail as each pup finds a forever home.

“When you’ve been a shelter dog for 915 days, but you haven’t lost hope and you love celebrating the other dogs dreams come true,” reads the touching caption shared by his shelter friend Julie Saraceno.

Julie shared that Papa was surrendered when his family moved and has been the shelter’s longest resident since February 2023. Through it all, Papa stays joyful and relishes fetch games and rides in the car, finding happiness in the simplest moments.

“The thing he loves most is to play fetch! He is happiest when you take him to the play yard with a tennis ball. He could literally play fetch for hours. I recently rented a Sniffspot so he could have a backyard of his own,” Julie explained.

Papa’s gentle spirit shines, even though he’s still looking for his forever home and prefers a household without cats. With the right dog companion, he could enjoy a furry sibling, and he remains adoptable at the Washington shelter.
