  • Nelson Bradbury’s message celebrates friendship and togetherness, inspiring millions online.
  • The team’s camaraderie and support offer him motivation and joy every day.

Nelson Bradbury, an 80-year-old from Newfoundland, sent a heartfelt and comical text to his softball teammates, which has now touched hearts worldwide. Despite not using social media himself, Bradbury’s words gained fame when a teammate’s wife shared the message on TikTok, making him feel like a “movie star.”

Sam Evans posted the text after receiving it at 2:30 a.m., highlighting Bradbury’s gratitude for being accepted as an equal among his much younger teammates. The message resonated with millions, earning over 15 million views and inspiring many with its sincere appreciation of companionship and sport.

In his text, Bradbury wrote:

“I really appreciate the way you guys treat me as an equal and not just an old fart. It’s all of you who keep me going and give me a reason to get out of bed in the morning.”

Bradbury reflected on how his involvement with the Mount Pearl Men’s Slo-Pitch Softball League began at age 69, shortly after his wife’s cancer diagnosis. He valued the friendships and physical activity the league brought, saying:

“You don’t get 15 new buddies every day of the week that you can have a bit of fun with and a beer after a game, especially at my age.”

This year, being paired with “the 14 best guys” in the league motivated him to send the encouraging note. Bradbury hoped his words would energize his teammates for their upcoming game and let them know just how much they meant to him.
