In a remarkable act of bravery, 13-year-old Gauge Bryant emerged as a hero in Everett, Washington, after saving an 11-year-old boy from a perilous situation.

The incident unfolded on a Monday afternoon at Thornton Park when the young boy accidentally fell from a dock and became ensnared underwater.

Without hesitation, Bryant sprang into action, determined to rescue the child.

“I swooped him up, I had his arms like t-shaped, and I wrapped my arms around his ribs and his back so he wouldn’t fall out,” Bryant explained.

He added, “I used my one hand to get up as much as I can, and he fell out of my arms, so I had to grab him again.”

Thanks to Bryant’s persistence, he managed to bring the boy to the surface, where bystanders quickly assisted in pulling him onto the dock.

Bryant was the first to initiate chest compressions until nurses and community members arrived to continue CPR efforts.

“I knew I had to get him out. I got him out, and his lips were purple and blue,” Bryant recounted.

The child had been trapped underwater for nearly six minutes, submerged ten feet beneath the dock.

During those tense moments, Bryant found himself seeking divine intervention.

“I was like, please God, please save this young man’s life, I want him to have a life, live long, have a healthy life, and have a wife and children,” he shared.

The boy who nearly drowned is now stable and on the road to recovery, a testament to Bryant’s selfless and courageous actions.

“I’m super-happy that he’s doing well. I didn’t sleep well because I was just worrying about him,” Bryant expressed, hoping for a future meeting with the boy once he returns home.

Local officials did not overlook Bryant’s bravery, acknowledging his actions as “heroic.”
