In an interview with TODAY, Amy described her father as “playful and curious and kind” and credited him with teaching his children to seek out their passions and strive to make a difference in the world.

“The best thing I think he did for my family was raise us between New York City and the mountains of Sundance, because we got to live between the city and in natural law, and taught us a very strong value of stewardship,” she shared, emphasizing the balance and guidance he provided.

Amy also spoke about her father’s influence on independent filmmakers. She highlighted his unwavering belief in using his platform to help others: “If you tell him not to do it, that just means it hasn’t been done yet,” she said, reflecting on his persistence and optimism in creating Sundance.

Though Robert Redford’s children chose different paths—Shauna as a painter, Amy as a filmmaker—they all carry forward his values and enduring spirit. Amy expressed how growing up in both city and nature shaped the entire family’s perspective and commitment to stewardship.
