Hoping to find the best school for her, 17-year-old Shanya Robinson-Owens sent applications to about 25-30 different colleges — later on knowing that her hard work has surely paid off.

To her surprise, along with her many acceptance letters coming in were unexpected scholarship packages worth over $1 million!

Shanya was just really doing her best so she could find the most suitable college for her, not really having high expectations in mind. It has absolutely become the shock of her life when she knew just how much money she was offered.

“I didn’t expect to get this, I knew about the scholarships, but I didn’t expect it to be this much, at all,” said the 17-year-old senior at the George Washington Carver High School of Engineering and Science.

As the Owens family started counting all her scholarship packages, the hashtag #KeepingUpWithNya was born to keep Shanya track her progress on social media.

The high schooler is taking her time to check out college campuses. She told CNN that she wants to think through the options and evaluate them carefully, and not just base her decision on who offers the most generous grant.

“I don’t want to base it off money and then I don’t like the school and not finish,” she said.

Shanya hopes to study psychology. She enjoys chemistry, physics and journalism. She even contributed to her school’s news website and podcast.

Graduating from high school in June, Shanya is also part of the school’s yearbook committee.

Among the colleges that sent Shanya offers were Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, La Salle University in Philadelphia, Temple University in Philadelphia, Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri and Cabrini University in Radnor, Pennsylvania.

Once she has her final decision, this motivated girl will surely have a bright college journey.
