Thousands Send Painted Rocks to Make Texas Park More Magical

Published

on

  • Ron started adding painted rocks to a trail in Parr Park, Texas back in March to help brighten other people’s days.
  • Others were soon inspired to add more and more rocks to make the park trail more magical.
  • Now, the park houses more than 4,000 painted rocks sent by people from all over the country.

Ron Olsen of Grapevine, Texas has been walking a trail in Parr Park when he decided to decorate it with painted rocks.

He then enlisted more painters back in March: his three grown children. He hoped that the wonderful art pieces will help cheer anyone who walks the trail.

Ron shared, “We wanted to make it a getaway for people and give parents something safe to do outdoors with their children. Anyone can paint a rock, and if you put hundreds and hundreds of them together, it really adds up to something amazing.”

He soon inspired others to add to his family’s art pieces, which led to the Parr Park Rock Art Trail.

Chris Penny enlisted the help of his daughters, Sophia and Julia, to add even more painted rocks.

It wasn’t long before the project was expanded even further to involve people from other parts of the country!

Chris created a Facebook page to share the artistic “Rock of the Day” and invite everyone to add to the growing art trail.

He even offered to shoulder the shipping costs to allow people from far away to participate.

Soon, thousands of painted rocks were coming in! Chris has spent almost $10,000 of his own money on shipping costs.

Each rock tells its own story.

Some had art that depicted cartoons, comics, jokes, or board games:

Some contained inspirational quotes…

Thanks to Ron and Chris, the park now houses over 4,000 painted rocks from all over the country!

The trail has now become a go-to destination for art lovers and families alike.

And all the beautiful art has made it a magical place to escape today’s reality.

Chris shared, “It’s crazy how it’s caught on and I’m delighted that it’s brought so much joy to people. You name it and it’s out there. We even have a 2020 rock with zeros designed like toilet paper rolls.”

That might just be an accurate depiction of what 2020 has been. Jokes aside, it’s a wonderful thing to know how even a rock-sized piece of art can brighten people’s days.
