‘Where’s Walter?’: Woman Reunites With Missing Dog After 10 Months Search [Video]

  • Walter got lost in Missouri when he and his mom went on a vacation there.
  • His mom searched for him but could not find him and had to go back to New Hampshire where they lived.
  • After 10 months, volunteers at Lost Paws Trapping of Belleville, Illinois captured him and reunited him with his mom.

Whenever a dog gets to meet its human at the end of the day, its tail wags frantically and its bark can be so loud from being so happy.  How much more would a 10-month separation be like?

Walter slipped out his collar when he and his mom went to Arnold, Missouri.  He ran off into the nearby woods and his mom Kate Olson could not find him.

Fox & Walter, together again! They will have to get used to each other again.. there has been some growling from Walter, but Fox seems to be ok with letting him take his time, like the sweet, patient and kind older brother that he is!!????❤️????Posted by Kate Olson on Thursday, 19 November 2020

She even set up a Facebook “Where’s Walter?” page, distributed and posted flyers to search for the dog. The golden retriever mix was a scaredy dog.  And the flyers specifically say not to chase him as he would only retreat further into where he was.

But work was calling and so she had to go back to Peterborough, New Hampshire, leaving the search for Walter in the hands of family and lost dog organizations in the area.

Kate said, “I just want to know if he’s okay. I want him to know that I’m not giving up on him. I’ll never give up on him.”

Any news of a credible sighting would bring Kate back to St. Louis.  She was always hopeful that Walter would be found.  But after more than 10 months, she was beginning to fear that she might never see Walter again.

But then she received a call that Lost Paws Trapping of Belleville, Illinois had captured a dog fitting Walter’s description.  Kate immediately flew to Illinois and immediately knew it was her beloved Walter.

Kate wrote on Facebook, “I was able to be the second person on the scene and I was told to slowly approach the trap and to start talking to him. He was barking like mad when I got there but as soon as he saw me, he stopped.”

Walter took a few minutes before he calmed down and realized that it was his mom.  “He gave me his paw, like he has so many times before. Like he knew I liked that and he liked holding my hand. It was incredible.”

Before they got to be together, Walter was checked out by a vet and given two baths.  Being with his mom made him comfortable enough for him to show his true personality to come rushing back.

Kate said, “He has been such a little love. He is the same sweet boy he was before and maybe even sweeter because he has missed getting loved on!”

Thanks to the volunteers at Lost Paws Trapping and Kate, Walter is home!  What a heartwarming end to 2020.
