Quick Smiles:

  • 10-year-old Liam runs miles to honor fallen law enforcement officers.
  • He has completed 17 tribute runs since joining Running 4 Heroes.
  • Liam sends a folded flag and letter to each honored officer’s family.

Liam, a 10-year-old boy from Chicago, is making a heartfelt impact by running miles in tribute to law enforcement officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.

As a dedicated member of the nonprofit Running 4 Heroes, Liam joins a nationwide effort that has covered more than 2,000 miles to remember first responders.

This year, Kansas lost four officers over four months, and Liam took on the mission to honor each one by dedicating a run in their memory.

Since starting in April, Liam has completed 17 runs. He recently ran in honor of Sergeant Scott Heimann of the Hays Police Department and in June, paid tribute to Phillipsburg Deputy Brandon Gaede.

Before every run, Liam learns about the officer, writes a heartfelt letter to their family, and carries an American flag the full mile, supported by a police or fire vehicle. After finishing, he folds and sends the flag to the family as a meaningful gesture.

“Even though we’re in a different state, they’re still trying to help people and help them stay safe,” Liam said.

“I want to honor them, even if they’re miles away.”
