Quick Smiles:

  • Rambo, a rottweiler from Florida, has a hilarious reaction to nail clippers that has gone viral on TikTok.
  • Despite his owners’ best efforts to make the experience comfortable, Rambo’s distrust is evident every time the clippers come out.
  • The American Kennel Club suggests helping dogs grow accustomed to clippers from a young age to reduce fear.

Dogs are known for their unwavering trust in their human companions, but for Rambo, a rottweiler from Florida, that trust seems to evaporate at the sight of nail clippers. Every few months, his owner, Briana Smith, witnesses the joy drain from Rambo’s face, replaced by a look of sheer terror.

Despite his obvious discomfort, Rambo manages to sit still for his at-home grooming sessions. His wide-eyed expression, however, clearly communicates his feelings about the ordeal.

Smith told Newsweek, “Rambo really doesn’t like it when we have to trim his claws. It’s a regular occurrence, but it never gets easier.” She further explained, “Rambo has always hated the nail clippers, ever since he was a little puppy. It’s so bad, the vet won’t even try to clip them now, so we have to do it instead. We try to calm him down or encourage him with lots of treats, cuddles, and plenty of words of affirmation to get him through it.”

Smith recently shared a video on TikTok (@schneidersonthego) capturing Rambo’s reaction during his latest pedicure. The video, overlaid with a humorous commentary about Rambo’s sudden loss of trust, has quickly gained popularity.

As soon as the nail clippers make an appearance, Rambo’s joyous demeanor fades, replaced by a look of dread. This video has already gone viral, amassing over 1.6 million views and 195,900 likes on TikTok in just a few days. Despite Rambo’s clear dislike for the procedure, social media users can’t seem to get enough of his reaction.

Trimming a dog’s nails can be a stressful experience for both the pet and the owner. The American Kennel Club (AKC) suggests that the best way to reduce a dog’s fear of nail clippers is to familiarize them with the tool from a young age. They recommend allowing the dog to sniff the clippers, gently placing them near the dog’s paws, and rewarding the dog with treats and praise.

The AKC also advises taking a gradual approach to nail trimming. Start by clipping one nail, then two, and over time, the dog should become more comfortable with the process. The key is to only clip the tip of the nail in a straight line and avoid cutting past the curve to prevent causing the dog any pain or bleeding.

While Rambo’s nail trimming sessions may be his least favorite times, Smith shared that “everyone has been loving” the video on social media, with many finding his reaction “hilarious.” Thankfully, Rambo can now enjoy a few weeks of peace before the dreaded clippers make their next appearance.
