Volleyball Team Gifts Janitor a Car Surprise

At Rockwall High School in Nevada, Texas, volleyball players discovered their school’s beloved janitor, Abel Rodriguez, didn’t have a car. Instead of standing by, they launched a campaign to help—and the whole community responded.

Known for his friendly high fives, words of encouragement, and ever-present smile, Abel has become a cherished figure whose positivity inspires everyone he meets.

“He comes to cheer us on during all of our games. He’s never let us step on the court without a high five and a ‘good luck.’ He’s known throughout the school to always have a smile on his face and a hug if you need it,” the team shared online.

The students teamed up with a local car dealership and, thanks to generous donations, quickly raised enough to buy Abel a car and cover his insurance.

When the day arrived, over 100 students, teachers, and families gathered, holding handmade signs and chanting his name. Abel’s reaction to seeing his brand-new car was pure joy and disbelief.

This heartwarming gesture is a shining reminder of the powerful impact kindness can have, and how gratitude can come full circle.

“To know that we could help pull this all together and give it to him was such an amazing feeling,” said volleyball player Addee Kuenstler.
