The sound of clapping and cheering echoed in the York County Police Department as they warmly welcomed their youngest recruit: 8-year-old Landen Baer.

Diagnosed with stage 3 cancer, Landen’s journey hasn’t been without obstacles.

Yet, with the assistance of the Make-A-Wish foundation and an exception from the department, this brave little boy saw one of his biggest dreams come to life.

“It means the world to him,” gushed Landen’s mom. Indeed, for weeks, Landen had enthusiastically spoken of this day.

When it finally dawned, there he was, beaming, donned in a full police uniform with a shiny badge, as he took the oath of service.

However, after the touching ceremony, there was no time to bask in the limelight.

Young Officer Landen was informed about stolen property and, with handcuffs ready, he and his partner were quick on the trail of the suspect.

True to his newfound role, Officer Landen confidently declared, “Put your hands behind your back. You’re under arrest.”

Landen’s adventures didn’t stop there.

Subsequent days had him exploring the cockpit of a state police helicopter, enjoying a firetruck ride, and even waving to crowds in a parade!

Behind all these extraordinary experiences, Landen’s mother revealed a simple yet touching motive for her son’s aspirations.

Reflecting on Landen’s spirit and character, she stated, “He’s such a sweet little boy and he wants nothing more than to help people.”
