“My mom thought it didn’t depict real life,” Christopher said. “My mom got mad at me for watching The Flintstones … She just didn’t like anything that played to kids. If it wasn’t thought-provoking or depth-y or gritty, you know, she liked to think of herself as an ‘artiste’ and as a result had that kind of attitude.”

He shared that their own home was quite different from the Bradys, which may have shaped his mother’s views. Although she tried to steer Christopher away from the show, he always appreciated the positivity it brought.

“It’s just aspirational. Even if it isn’t real, if you want to take that as a premise, then this is really, you know, too good to be true. What’s wrong with too good to be true? I mean, it’s what we all react to in our programming around Christmas time…and all the programs are uplifting and aspirational, and there is a place for that,” he explained. “There just wasn’t in her world.”
