Traveling in business class from London to Istanbul, child-free Courtney Seard faced a young boy kicking her seat while his parents used their phones.

Instead of staying silent, the 48-year-old peak performance coach addressed the father calmly and firmly.

“I don’t believe in addressing the child. I find that passive aggressive and rude,” Seard tells TODAY.com.

“You’re going to need to move your child or switch seats because I’m not going to allow him to kick my seat nonstop.”

The father apologized, switched places with his son, and the issue resolved without escalation or staff involvement.

Seard, who teaches communication skills, waited two minutes first and advises addressing issues early with respect to prevent blowups.

“People are afraid of crucial conversations,” she said. “But if you’re direct and respectful, a lot of things don’t have to escalate.”

She later shared cookies with the boy, emphasizing shared responsibility in public spaces.

“I think sometimes people assume if you don’t have kids, you’re mean. That’s not it. I understand I’m child-free in a child-filled world. Kids belong,” Seard says. “We all just have a responsibility in shared spaces.”
