A thoughtful cat has been captured in a video comforting a Golden Retriever suffering from anxiety. The caption says their owners were away.

The clip shows the black cat repeatedly attending to the anxious dog. It was shared to Reddit by their owner with the handle name Aerial_Engage. Nova the cat can be seen getting closer to Simba the dog to calm him down. Simba was evidently missing their owners.

The encounters were captured by the home security camera set up to keep tabs on the two pets. Simba and Nova were being looked after by a dog sitter living nearby, but it was decided that they would sleep in their home because they are most familiar and comfortable in it.

Their owner told Newsweek they were surprised to witness how Nova reacted to Simba in the video.

“They’ve been close but our cat is actually younger than our dog so we were surprised to see him acting like a big brother and comforting him,” they said. “It isn’t something he normally does at home. Nova sometimes sleeps next to the dog but not often.”

Ten-month-old Nova is a relatively new addition to the household and a big adjustment for 4-year-old Simba. But, after a few bumps in the road, the pair started to get along.

“It was a rough start for the kitten,” their owner admits. “But now they are friends and play fight without hurting each other.”

Despite their contrasting personalities, the video displayed a different side of their relationship with Nova really stepping up to the plate for his dog brother.

Of course, there had been some concern over how Simba would cope while his owners are away.

“Our dog has really bad doggy anxiety sadly,” their owner said. “We never leave home more than a few hours this was his first time alone for a couple days”

Despite visits and walks with a sitter as well as calming music, central heating and automated lights, Simba can still be seen struggling in the video.

Nova was thoughtful enough to pick up on this. Their owner was touched to see the cat tending to his brother and making sure he was okay.
