FDA Updates Public on Shredded Cheese Recall
Quick Smiles:
- The FDA issued an important recall update for shredded cheese across the U.S.
- Over 1.5 million bags, spanning many well-known brands, are included.
- Consumers are encouraged to stay informed for their safety and well-being.
The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has provided an update regarding a major recall involving more than 1.5 million bags of shredded cheese from Great Lakes Cheese Co. Inc. of Hiram, Ohio. This precaution was taken due to a potential contamination with metal fragments, presenting possible health risks if consumed.
On December 1, the FDA elevated the recall to a “Class I” risk, highlighting a higher chance of temporary or medically reversible health effects. These shredded cheese products were available in five varieties under dozens of brand names at major retailers nationwide and in Puerto Rico.
The listed cheeses span from Mozzarella and Italian-Style blends to Pizza-Style varieties, with brands including Always Save, Borden, Brookshire’s, Cache Valley Creamery, Food Lion, Happy Farms by Aldi, Great Value, Publix, Stater Bros. Markets, and others. Consumers who have these items at home are encouraged to check best-by dates and stay alert for further guidance from the FDA.
By keeping consumers promptly updated, the FDA is helping everyone enjoy peace of mind at the dinner table. Stay tuned to official sources for the latest updates and celebrate healthy choices in every meal.
