Quick Smiles:

  • Franny the goat and her triplets are now living a joyful life at a sanctuary.
  • Rescued from an uncertain fate, Franny’s story has touched many hearts online.
  • The Humane Society continues its efforts to improve farm animal welfare.

A delightful video capturing a family of goats basking in the sunset has brought joy to countless TikTok users. Franny, the serene mother goat, wasn’t always surrounded by love and safety. Three years ago, Caitlin Cimini, the devoted president of Rancho Relaxo in New Jersey, rescued Franny from a grim future. She was rescued from slaughter while pregnant.

Franny was visibly in pain as she limped into the auction area, unaware of the new life she carried within her. Cimini, unaware of Franny’s pregnancy, was later greeted by the arrival of triplets: Buttercup, Bubbles, and Blossom. This moment reassured Cimini that her decision to save Franny was indeed the right one. The caption reads, “Franny, Buttercup, Bubbles, and Blossom will live out their lives together as a family.”

Franny, Buttercup, Bubbles and Blossom will live out their lives together as a family because of the life-saving work you all allow us to do through your support and generosity. 💜 Giving Tuesday, often described as a global day of giving or a global generosity movement, is held each year on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. So many nonprofits rely on this day to bring in funding for different operating expenses, necessary projects that don’t fit in the day to day budget and so much more. Today, we have a $1,000 match, $5,000 match and $10,000 match from three different AMAZING donors. Today, if we raise $16,000, it actually becomes $32,000. 😭💜 Running a farmed animal sanctuary is beyond expensive. Our feed bill reaches well over $20,000 per month if you include hay. Please consider making a tax deductible donation today! Help us reach all three matches. A small bale of hay is around $10. A large round bale is around $100. A bag of feed is around $25. A gallon of gas is around $3. A bag of beet treats is around $30. A bale of straw is around $6. Thank you all for being here. Let’s make today a successful one for the rescued animals here at the sanctuary!!!!!!! A poignant text overlay states: “Franny has been through so much before coming to Rancho Relaxo, but her kids have only known love. This is why [the sanctuary] exists. This is why we do what we do.”

According to the Humane Society, stories like Franny’s are not rare. Farm animals often face severe abuses, including confinement, painful procedures without anesthesia, and harmful selective breeding. In the U.S., over 9 billion land animals are raised for human consumption annually, with most enduring conditions that would be illegal for pets. These animals are frequently confined in spaces so small they can barely move or placed in overcrowded, unsanitary environments. Current laws permit these practices, which often lack federal oversight and are exempt from state cruelty laws.

The Humane Society has successfully advocated for bans on extreme confinement in more than a dozen states and continues to push for comprehensive farm animal protections. The organization focuses on improving farm animal welfare through corporate policy changes, promoting plant-based options, and pursuing protective legislation and litigation.
