Gardens around the world joined together for the joyful tradition of the Waterlily Weigh-Off, celebrating the magnificent strength and beauty of nature’s largest lilies. Huntsville Botanical Gardens participated for the first time, with their Victoria ‘Longwood Hybrid’ waterlily showcasing an impressive 58-inch spread and supporting 176 pounds.

Missouri Botanical Garden’s spirited team outdid their previous best, with their waterlily bearing a record 182 pounds in this friendly competition. Kew Royal Botanic Gardens in London displayed a two-meter-wide leaf, which held 168.7 pounds, bringing plenty of smiles to their team.

“There’s nothing quite like standing beside a giant waterlily and realizing just how much strength and beauty nature holds.”

Denver Botanic Gardens started this global challenge three years ago, with over 40 gardens and zoos from around the globe participating in 2024. The event shines a light on the unique buoyancy of waterlilies and the joy they bring to communities worldwide.
