Legend says the tree grew from an ash seed brought home within primrose roots from a family holiday, adding to its charm and mystique.

The Woodland Trust, which organizes the annual competition, noted the outpouring of support for the ash tree from locals, artists, and officials, making this Scotland’s second win in a row.

“Trees really matter to people, and this is clear from the response we’ve seen to the Argyle Street ash,” said Adam Cormack, head of campaigning at the Woodland Trust.

He added, “Trees inspire us to write stories and create art, whilst connecting us to cultural legacies and a sense of place.”

This year’s competition also highlighted favorites like the Beatles’ Cedar at Chiswick House and Wiltshire’s “King of Limbs” oak, each with its own famous story.

Winners move on to represent the UK in the European Tree of the Year contest, a tradition that has seen memorable victories from trees across the continent.
