This digital grain account allows small landowners to store their harvests in secure grain banks and monitor national prices directly from their phones.

For years, farmers were forced to sell their crops immediately to middlemen at low prices to avoid the risk of their grain wasting away. This new system removes those intermediaries, turning distressed sellers into patient traders who can wait for the best market conditions.

“Now we decide when to sell. If the price is not good today, we can wait,” explains 66-year-old farmer Ajay Kumar Chaudhary.

“Maybe after a few days, the rate becomes better,” he says.

If a farmer needs cash immediately, the platform offers low-interest loans while the grain remains safely stored, providing a vital alternative to predatory lenders. These loans are automatically settled once the farmer identifies a favorable price and chooses to sell their stock.

“If we need money immediately, we can take a loan at about 1% interest and keep the grain stored,” says Chaudhary.

“The loan is automatically repaid when the grain is eventually sold,” he adds.

The impact of this technology extends to national food security by utilizing scientific storage methods that prevent spoilage. By reducing the 18% of grain typically lost to improper storage, the platform ensures that more food reaches the table while maximizing income for rural families.

By empowering small-scale producers with digital tools, these grain banks are creating a more equitable and efficient future for Indian agriculture.
