Hayden Panettiere shared that working alongside Connie Britton in “Nashville” began with her feeling the need to apologize after their first scene together. Filming their initial interaction at the Ryman Auditorium, Panettiere played Juliette Barnes, who greeted Britton’s character, Rayna James, with passive-aggressive tension.

“I remember the first scene that I ever did with her. It was in (Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium), the backstage of the Ryman, and Rayna comes in and says something nice to me, and I am just so passive-aggressive to her.”

She was quick to apologize to Britton, wanting to ensure a positive off-screen relationship despite their characters’ rivalry. The two actresses portrayed on-screen competitors, but Panettiere praised Britton’s graciousness, calling her “amazing” and “so supportive.”

“Connie is just a class act,” Panettiere said. “She is so smart and so wise, and just being able to be on screen with her, I was honored. I think we kept each other grounded throughout the whole thing.”
