Alice and Ellen Kessler, celebrated German twin sisters, were adored throughout Europe for their captivating singing and dancing in the 1950s and 1960s. They recently passed away together at the age of 89 through assisted suicide, as shared by the German Society for Humane Dying.

“They had been considering this option for some time. They had been members of the organization for over a year. A lawyer and a doctor conducted preliminary discussions with them,” the organization stated.

The sisters began their artistic journey in ballet before their family moved from East to West Germany in the early 1950s, launching their entertainment careers. The Kessler Twins became household names in Germany, Italy, and beyond, enchanting audiences with their lively performances. Their 1963 American television debut on “The Red Skelton Hour” and Life magazine cover brought them fame across the Atlantic.

They were hailed as “dazzling stars, true legends, and sisters whose grace, charm, and magic will shine forever.”

Making memorable appearances on TV and in European films, they continued to inspire many with their creativity and energy. Later, they were honored by both German and Italian governments for their significant contributions to the arts, including the prestigious Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.

The Kessler twins’ legacy is a testament to enduring talent and the joy they spread through their performances.
