Labrador Daisy Reunites with Family After Eight-Year Adventure

Quick Smiles:
- A Labrador named Daisy, stolen eight years ago, was joyfully reunited with her owners.
- The family never lost hope, keeping Daisy’s photo on their mantelpiece as a daily reminder.
- Daisy’s return highlights the importance of microchipping pets for their safe recovery.
In a tale that proves love truly knows no bounds, Rita and Philip Potter experienced an emotional reunion with their cherished Labrador, Daisy, after an eight-year separation. Daisy, taken from their backyard in 2017, was finally brought back to her family by the RSPCA, sparking joy and tears among the Potters and their extended family.
“Daisy, you are home,” Rita exclaimed as the senior Labrador, now 13, dashed around the yard she once called her own. This touching moment was witnessed by their children and grandchildren, some of whom were too young to remember Daisy before she went missing.
The couple’s unwavering hope was a beacon through the years. Despite the passage of time, they held onto the belief that they would see Daisy again. “We kept a photograph on the mantelpiece and would look at it every day thinking of her and where she might be,” Rita shared.
Their efforts to find Daisy included a social media campaign that caught the attention of actor Tom Hardy, and a petition to combat pet theft.
Daisy was discovered during a routine investigation by Kim Walters, an RSPCA inspector. The Labrador, found with untreated health issues, was identified through her microchip. Her condition suggested she had been used for breeding, and she was finally given the care she needed.
Andy Cook from the RSPCA noted Daisy’s resilience despite her hardships. “She is quite elderly for a Labrador at the age of 13 and we think she is deaf, but she is adorable,” he said. “She really is the sweetest girl and will wag her tail whenever she sees you.”
Now back in her rightful home, Daisy is basking in the love and attention she deserves. Her story serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of microchipping pets to ensure their safe return if lost or stolen.
The RSPCA hopes Daisy’s journey will also raise awareness about the risks of unscrupulous breeding practices and encourage adoption from shelters.
“We’re currently in the midst of an animal welfare crisis with rescue centers overflowing,” an RSPCA spokesperson explained. They advocate for stricter enforcement of breeding regulations to prioritize the health and welfare of dogs.
Daisy’s return is a testament to the enduring bond between pets and their families, a connection that can withstand even the longest separations.
