Imagine soaring through the clouds, not just in an airplane, but on a wave of romance. That’s exactly what happened when Sam Riber decided to pop the question to his girlfriend, Lissy Alden, during a flight to Mexico on her birthday.

Both movie enthusiasts, Sam and Lissy share a love for cinematic moments, so it was only fitting that Sam chose to recreate a scene from a beloved film.

With a ukulele discreetly smuggled aboard and the assistance of enthusiastic flight attendants, Sam’s plan took flight.

The couple was halfway through their journey from Charlotte, North Carolina, when Sam began serenading Lissy with a familiar tune from the movie.

As he strummed away, he dropped to one knee, eliciting an exuberant “Yes!” from a delighted Lissy.

“It was such a special moment,” Sam shared, reflecting on the success of his plan.

The pair, who met less than a year ago at a dinner, felt an immediate connection, leading Sam to envision a proposal reminiscent of a memorable movie scene.

“We’ve sung versions of that song to each other because we often quote or act out movies to entertain each other but she had no clue about my wider plan,” Sam explained.

The flight crew, particularly Teri Ramirez, played a pivotal role in this airborne romance.

“The team went above and beyond to help, even introducing our code word ‘juice’ so I would know when to go up and grab the guitar they’d been hiding for me,” Sam said.

Lissy, caught completely off guard, initially thought Sam’s serenade was a birthday surprise.

“I had no idea he was going to propose then and there,” she admitted.

“When it first started, I assumed it was because it was my birthday, as he’d already done things like bumping us up to first class.

But, when he got down on one knee, I realized what was happening and just felt so happy.”

“It was definitely a peak life moment.”

As they savor their engagement, the couple looks forward to planning their future together.

Though their wedding day remains unplanned, perhaps booking a wedding singer is a priority that won’t be far behind.
