Millions Set for Special Northern Lights Viewing

Quick Smiles:
- Unpredictable geomagnetic storms bring dazzling auroras.
- Tonight’s show could be visible in select northern states.
- NASA offers tips for a cozy and fun aurora viewing experience.
Sometimes, weather offers the most magical surprises. This week, a geomagnetic storm from space promises an aurora that could let millions catch a rare glimpse of the northern lights on January 21.
Residents in states like Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Michigan, Wisconsin, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine have the best chances to view this vibrant display tonight.
Peak viewing is expected from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m., and the best places to watch are far from city lights. Bringing essentials for a chilly night—like snacks, blankets, and something comfortable to sit on—can make the experience even more enjoyable.
“Extra camera batteries or battery pack for your phone. On cold nights, keep them in your pocket to keep them warm since cold batteries lose power quickly,” NASA explains.
Whether you plan to watch the sky firsthand or admire photos online, tonight offers a little extra wonder to look forward to. Wishing you clear skies and bright northern lights memories!
