Mysterious Hero Saves Elderly Man with CPR in Montreal

Quick Smiles:
- A mysterious helper saved an 86-year-old Montreal man with CPR.
- The Borrelli family seeks to thank the unknown rescuer.
- Kindness and quick action can make all the difference.
In a touching tale from Montreal, an unknown hero stepped in to save an elderly man’s life by performing CPR for a full 20 minutes until paramedics arrived.
This stranger’s selfless act allowed Sabato Borrelli, the 86-year-old patriarch, to continue celebrating life, including his 87th birthday while recovering in the hospital.
The Borrelli family, touched by this act of kindness, is now on a mission to find and thank the person who gave Sabato a second chance.
Gloria, Sabato’s daughter, expressed her gratitude:
“All they wanted was this person to have a chance and he was given that chance.”
Unlike dramatic scenes from movies, this Good Samaritan called 911 and tirelessly performed chest compressions, ensuring Sabato’s survival until help arrived.
Sabato’s other daughter, Lucy Orfeo, was present when her father regained consciousness, a moment she described as deeply emotional.
Lucy has a personal connection to the importance of kindness, having lost her own daughter to cardiac arrest at a young age.
“‘If you’re kind you can change the world,’ that’s what she would say. That was her thing, so it’s kind of like what’s fueling me,” Lucy shared, driven to locate the stranger who saved her father.
Dr. François de Champlain, an emergency room physician, emphasized the critical role of immediate action by bystanders in such situations.
“If the citizen as a Good Samaritan doesn’t act right now before the first responder and the ambulance comes in, the chance of survival is essentially zero,” he explained.
Dr. de Champlain advised that calling 911 is the first step, as operators can guide callers through the process of performing chest compressions or using a defibrillator if available.
He noted that chest compressions should be done with one hand atop the other, pressing in the center of the chest to the beat of “Stayin’ Alive” by the Bee Gees, or between 100 and 120 beats per minute.
This inspiring story reminds us all of the power of kindness and the difference one person can make.
If you’re in Montreal, keep an ear out for this story, and let’s help the Borrelli family find their mysterious savior.
