Rescue Dog Flourishes After Healing Getaway

Rue, a beloved rescue dog, faced a heartbreaking fate due to severe aggression that was linked to a rare sleep disorder. Her owner, Rose Mizak, tried everything, even planning a bucket list of special moments as she prepared for the difficult decision of behavioral euthanasia.

Experts believed Rue would never recover, as her disorder caused nightly outbursts and made her a risk to herself and others. “Many vets suggested euthanasia due to her being a risk to herself, humans, and other animals,” Mizak explained.

Not wanting Rue’s final days to be sad, Mizak took her on a 16-hour trip to the beaches of Florida with their other dogs. To everyone’s amazement, Rue didn’t have a single episode during the four days by the sea. This trip gave Mizak renewed hope and she immediately canceled the euthanasia plans.

“How can I put a 3-year-old dog down who has just shown me she can be better?” Mizak shared.

After moving to a spacious property in Pennsylvania and making changes to Rue’s care, including natural supplements and more walks, Rue continued to improve. Rue now sleeps peacefully alongside her siblings, Bear and Jack, and Mizak beams at her transformation: “A dog I was scared to be around is now a dog that can be cuddly and lay on the couch.”

Though Rue still has occasional episodes, Mizak is proud of her progress and cherishes the joyful days they now share. She documents their uplifting journey on TikTok, offering support and hope to others struggling with the same choice. Rue’s story shows that, sometimes, a change in environment and a little hope can truly make all the difference.
