This Heartwarming Generosity Experiment Is Spreading Kindness Worldwide

Quick Smiles:
- Drop Dead Generous is awarding 1,000 people $500 each to help others in creative ways.
- The project has inspired acts of kindness ranging from care home visits with a Shetland pony to breakfast spreads for librarians.
- Grants have also helped young chess players in Brazil and supported projects in Uganda and prison book clubs.
A global project called Drop Dead Generous is proving the power of human kindness by awarding 1,000 individuals $500 each to help others.
Founded by Tom Cledwyn and John Sweeney, the initiative encourages people to find imaginative ways to blow someone’s socks off.
Instead of simple handouts, the grants facilitate heartfelt ideas that range from building a home in Uganda to organizing prison book clubs in Brazil.
The project aims to frame generosity as a superpower that can create a lasting ripple effect across communities.
Cledwyn knows first-hand the impact of giving after donating a kidney to a stranger in 2012, a life-changing experience that sparked this mission.
“The experience of giving is the closest thing I’ve experienced to something that really matters.”
By trusting strangers to be generous, the project is building a distributed network of kindness that operates across twenty-one different countries.
“It feels more important than ever to frame generosity as a superpower, not just a nice thing.”
Anyone with a creative plan to help someone in need is encouraged to visit the website and submit their imaginative idea for consideration.
