  • Ashleigh Macpherson brought a puppy home to be a good diversion from the bad news caused by the pandemic.
  • Kiko, nine months old, has apparently sensed her mom’s needs and made a way to light her up.
  • The nine-month-old “watchdog” turns her head 180 degrees and does many head-flipping “tricks,” giving a cheerful vibe at their home.

Hoping a dog would help her cope with the anxiety of the pandemic, Ashleigh Macpherson brought home a puppy named Kiko. The nine-month-old pup seemed to sense that her mom needed her, so the natural watchdog did what she thought was necessary.

Seemingly a natural acrobat, this Finnish Spitz dog has been steadily turning her head 180 degrees to fix her eyes on her mom. With her head-spinning skills, she has become a “watchdog” — literally!

It has become natural for Kiko to crane her head back when she was sleeping, which wasn’t a big deal for Ashleigh up until Kiko started consciously rotating her head even if she’s awake.

“She has always done it since she was a small puppy,” Ashleigh told The Dodo. “At the time, I just thought she was one of those dogs who liked to sleep ‘broken.’”

Now, Kiko would always bend her neck back to look at her two dog siblings and to watch her mom when she was facing the other direction. She can now even perform the Exorcist-like “trick” on one “Demon” command.

“When I first saw her bend her head back to look at me, I was quite surprised but at the same time, I thought it was cute,” Ashleigh said. “I thought, ‘She must really want to keep her focus on me.’ And that she must love me so much that she doesn’t want to take her eyes off me.”

Ashleigh said that Kiko is “extremely sweet and loving.” Aside from always watching her and her dog siblings, Kiko also loves cuddles and wants to be always by her mom’s side.

Ashleigh made the right decision when she brought Kiko home.

“She took my mind off all the troubling news and information that was all over the media,” Ashleigh said. “I feel that’s why our bond is so strong, as she was really there for me during those hard times.”
