A delightful transformation tale has emerged from the world of rescue animals, where a dog named Winnie has gone from “stray to slay” after finding her forever home.

Natalie Fernandez, who shared Winnie’s journey on her TikTok account Natsack123, revealed that Winnie had “never had a haircut in her life” before her adoption.

Grooming is a crucial aspect of pet care, yet it often gets overlooked. According to a survey by PetSmart, while 67 percent of dog parents acknowledge the importance of grooming for their pet’s health, only 37 percent regularly visit professional grooming salons.

When Fernandez first brought Winnie home, it was evident that she was in need of a “glow-up.” Despite having fostered many dogs through her rescue, Wags, Winnie felt different from the start.

“We have fostered a number of dogs before and loved them all but something was just different with her,” Fernandez shared.

Winnie’s initial appearance was quite shocking for Fernandez. “She was smaller than I thought she would be—so skinny, had never had a haircut in her life, had double canines, worms, and desperately needed a bath. Her hair was matted and she had twigs and leaves caught in it,” she explained.

However, an unexpected bond formed during the drive home. “She looked up at me in the car and I burst into tears,” Fernandez said. “I don’t know how to explain it, she just looked so grateful.”

The connection Winnie quickly established with Fernandez’s other dog, Alfie, confirmed that she was meant to stay. “When we got home, she immediately started playing with Alfie,” Fernandez recalled. “They got along so well. It was perfect, they even look alike and we get asked if they’re litter mates all the time.”

Little is known about Winnie’s life before she was found wandering as a stray. Initially, she was easily spooked and slept in unusual positions, but she adapted quickly to her new surroundings.

Winnie was estimated to be around one or two years old when Fernandez adopted her. “So she went that whole first year or two without ever having had a haircut,” Fernandez noted.

Within two days of her arrival, Winnie’s makeover transformed her from a large, shaggy dog to a petite and confident pup.

This change not only altered her appearance but also boosted her self-confidence and security. Winnie soon realized she was in a caring and loving environment, becoming a “foster fail” as Fernandez joyfully adopted her.

“Winnie is always happy,” Fernandez shared. “She absolutely loves playing fetch in the house, stealing socks out of the laundry and playing with them, wrestling with Alfie, zooming around the living room, getting her morning ice cube, and any other treats she can get.”

Fernandez posted Winnie’s makeover video to remind everyone that “every dog, no matter their past, deserves a chance at a loving home.”

“Winnie’s story is a reminder that a little kindness and care can make all the difference,” she said. “From being a scared, neglected stray to thriving in a home full of love, her transformation shows that with patience, compassion, and the right environment, even the most vulnerable animals can find joy and security.”
