  • When 13-year-old Lacey spotted an injured bumblebee on the road, she rescued it and tried to transfer it to the nearby flowers.
  • But the bee just wouldn’t leave her, and has followed her for several weeks since!
  • The grateful bee is fortunate that Lacey simply loves animals, and adores the tiny creature!

Lacey Shillinglaw has had a bumblebee following her for weeks now. She often has to assure passersby — who spot the bee in her hair — that there’s no need to worry.

Lacey, 13, has always cared for animals. So when she spotted an injured bee on the road, she simply had to offer aid.

The bee had a crumpled wing, so Lacey tried to transfer it from the road to a nice flower. But the bee refused to go to any flower — it wanted to stay with her.

So Lacey and her family just let her be. The bumblebee, now named Betty, came home with them — and has followed her rescuer for several weeks since!

Betty can’t seem to part from Lacey. While most people would think the thought of a bee crawling all over them to be horrifying, Lacey adores it.

Lacey’s mom, Laura Pashley, said, “Lacey has no fear at all of any animals — apart from spiders!”

Lacey has never tried to make Betty stay with her. She has always tried to take the bee outside and transfer her to flowers or another suitable natural environment. But while Betty may fly away for a moment or two, she always goes back to Lacey and follows her everywhere — even to the store or the bowling alley!

Laura shared, “Betty climbs in Lacey’s long hair like it’s some kind of jungle. She’s on her 90 percent of the time during the day, including her face, her glasses, and even in between her toes.”

Betty even has a makeshift bed so she can stay near Lacey during the night.

Lacey simply loves animals, so much that she plans to become a veterinarian!

Laura shared that their cat Larry regularly brings in mice, but when Lacey sees that the mouse is unharmed, she “will not think twice about just scooping them up in her hands to check them over and set them free.”

Lacey and her family don’t know if and when Betty will eventually become independent. No matter how long she stays, Lacey will always treasure their time together.

“I’m so happy and I just love spending my time with her,” Lacey shared. “She’s so fluffy and I love our friendship. Betty is totally amazing — I’ll remember this forever.”
