Quick Smiles:

  • Young Texans rally together with lemonade stands to support flood victims.
  • Community spirit shines bright as kids raise thousands for Camp Mystic.
  • Generosity and compassion flow as freely as the lemonade.

In the aftermath of devastating floods over the July 4th weekend in central Texas, even the youngest residents are stepping up to make a difference.

As search and rescue operations continue, children across the state are setting up lemonade stands to support those affected, especially focusing on Camp Mystic, an all-girls summer camp on the banks of the Guadalupe River.

In Harris County, 14-year-old Brylee Livesay caught the attention of local law enforcement with her lemonade stand.

“Brylee raised more than $600 — all of which is going directly to help flood victims,” shared the Harris County precinct in a social media post.

Her efforts set a powerful example of community spirit.

Meanwhile, Courtney Birdsong, a realtor in Lake Jackson, Texas, shared a photo of her children running their own lemonade stand to raise funds for the camps affected by the flooding.

“All proceeds and donations will go to the camps affected by the Guadalupe River flooding,” she wrote.

Her son, a Camp La Junta attendee, has been deeply moved by the situation.

The Birdsong family’s initiative inspired others, including the Woodard family.

Omari Armstrong Woodard’s sons aimed to raise $1,000 with their stand, motivated by the need to support their fellow Texans.

“Our great state of Texas is hurting, and now is the time to step up for one another,” Woodard wrote on social media, acknowledging Birdsong for sparking the idea.

Anjali Patel and her son Shan also joined the cause, using her birthday as an opportunity to set up a lemonade stand.

Her efforts were directed towards raising funds for therapeutic services for affected families.

“Every donation helps,” she noted, encouraging others to contribute to a GoFundMe that has already garnered over $350,000.

Perhaps the most remarkable effort came from Corrigan and Cannon Camp, 9-year-old twins in Fort Worth, Texas.

They managed to raise over $5,000 during the flood weekend.

“I feel like a lot of people, like, care for Mystic and how damaged it is,” Corrigan expressed.

Their mother, Lisa Camp, highlighted the overwhelming community response.

“The community really showed up,” she said.
