Woman Finally Meets Mickey, Tears Flow

Tracy Sommer, 58, never anticipated her tears when she finally met Mickey Mouse at Disney World.

In a heartwarming Instagram video shared by her daughter Savannah, Tracy is seen wiping away happy tears while talking on the phone.

Savannah posted the video with this sweet caption: “Smiling because moments like this remind me that it’s my mom’s first time living too, and I feel blessed to be a part of it.”

In the video, Sommer stands outside at Disney World, emotionally telling her husband over speakerphone about her special moment.

“I finally met Mickey,” she says, “It’s stupid that I’m crying, and I’m 58 years old.”

“It’s not stupid,” her daughter replies off-camera. “It’s not stupid. That’s the magic of Disney at every age.”

The post touched hundreds, who shared their own Disney memories. One wrote, “3 yrs ago I hugged Pooh for the first time. I cried like a baby.”

Sommer’s first trip to Disney World was in the 1970s, when she was 10. She remembers the excitement as her parents drove her and her siblings to the park with luggage strapped to the roof, just like in a movie.

She recalls searching for Mickey through the crowds as a child, but only meeting Goofy then.

“We got to see Goofy, but we just never found Mickey,” she recalls.

Her love for Disney deepened over the years—especially when her eldest daughter became seriously ill at the age of 3, and Disney movies brought comfort and hope to their family.

“She had a seizure. She got really sick. She almost died up in intensive care,” Sommer said. “We couldn’t wait to go home, and part of the healing, seriously, was watching ‘The Emperor’s New Groove’ and watching all the Disney movies…. Disney movies kind of became our healing thing.”

Many years later, Savannah, her younger daughter, landed an internship at Disney World. In July, she surprised Tracy with a trip back to the parks and made sure her mom wouldn’t miss out on her childhood dream a second time.

“I was walking with Savannah, and she’s like, ‘Mom, Mickey’s gonna be here. You want to get in line?’” Sommer recalls. “And I go, ‘Yeah, absolutely.’”

Meeting Mickey was a magical moment, making Tracy feel like a child again.

“I just felt like a little kid again,” Sommer says. “I remember saying to Mickey, ‘I’ve always wanted to meet you. As a kid, I never had that chance.’”

Savannah took photos as Tracy received warm hugs from Mickey and Minnie. The first call Tracy made after was to her husband back home in New York, sharing the joy with tears of happiness.

Her husband was deeply supportive. “And he was so cool,” she recalls. “He’s like, ‘Honey, I know how much Disney means to you.’”

The experience was about far more than meeting a character; for Tracy, it was a beautiful journey back through family memories, love, and childhood dreams finally fulfilled.

“It’s like that 10 minutes of escaping the world and just being happy with Mickey,” she said. “Is there anything more innocent than that?”
