Bronx Teen’s Heartwarming Ghana Mission Brings Hope to Schoolchildren

High-school seniors juggle prom plans, exams, and college applications, but Max Owobu carries an extra mission on his shoulders. The 18-year-old from the Bronx has spent his senior year steering an international nonprofit that sponsors schoolchildren in Ghana.

Between study sessions, Max flew to Ghana to meet the students his organization supports. He walked the dusty paths of Calvary Methodist Elementary School, where smiling children in crisp uniforms greeted him like family.

“I wanted to prove that young people can make a real difference,” Max said during the visit.

Teachers at the school report higher attendance and brighter faces since the sponsorships began. Parents whisper their gratitude, calling the teen from New York their unexpected guardian angel.
