What transpired, however, was a flood of amusing “monster” comments from internet users. The wave of reactions wasn’t about the bonding displayed in the video but rather the “scary” optical illusion created by the camera flash in Diego’s eyes.

Diego, who typically spends his nights outside Eva’s room, decided to break his routine while on vacation. He hopped onto the twin bed beside Eva, to which Fletcher responded by hitting the record button. According to her, “He is such a dopey boy, and I think he was just protecting her in a new place.”

The video that Fletcher shared on her TikTok account @christinafletcher92 portrayed Eva patting Diego while he lay on the bed, attentively staring at the camera. In a surprising turn of events, the camera flash rendered Diego’s eyes glowing, catapulting him into internet stardom.

“And as she leaves the room, his eyes never leave her,” Fletcher said. This adorable act of protection and loyalty became overshadowed by the dog’s unknowing transformation into a “hellhound.”
