Boy slips in sweet notes praising foster dog for adopters

  • Maggie was too young to be adopted when she was rescued, so the Duncan family offered to foster her.
  • Six-year-old Roman quickly formed a bond with her and was sad when the time came for her to leave.
  • So he wrote some sweet notes, addressed to Maggie’s future family, to let them know how lucky they are to have “the best dog ever” as a new member of their family.

A six-year-old kid who helped foster a puppy with his family wants the pup’s new family to know that they made the right decision when adopting “the best dog.”

Maggie, a pit bull mix pup, was rescued by the nonprofit, North Shore Animal League America (NSALA), last year.

She was still too young to be adopted, so she needed a foster home that will help her get comfortable in a home environment and train her in basic obedience skills.

The Duncan family in Louisiana decided to take Maggie in as their foster dog.

Six-year-old Roman quickly formed a close bond with Maggie.

His family made it clear that they were only fostering the puppy, so little Roman knew that his new buddy will eventually be adopted by another family. Still, the two became close friends.

When Maggie became old enough to be adopted, she was scheduled for transfer to NSALA’s shelter in Port Washington, New York. Roman was sad to see her go.

Roman thought that writing could help him sort through his feelings.

So, he wrote some sweet letters, addressed to Maggie’s future forever family, to let them know just how lucky they are to have “the best dog ever” as a new member of their family.

Roman made sure to layer on the praise.

He started off by saying, “Maggie is the best dog you could ask for.” He also wrote assurances that Maggie is already “Potty chained [sic]” and that she loves other dogs and kids.

Roman made sure to slip in the notes with Maggie’s paperwork when the time came for her to leave.

The Animal League America rescue team was pleasantly surprised by the sweet letters, so they made sure that the notes will find their way to Maggie’s future forever family.

NSALA expressed their hopes that Roman’s experience will inspire other families to help foster pets.
