Rescuers from nonprofit humane society Animal Charity of Ohio recently saved a mama dog and her two puppies from a deplorable living situation.

Jane MacMurchy, the nonprofit’s operations director, said, “They were living in terrible conditions. It was a good 6 to 8 inches of debris in a makeshift pen, and [the puppies] were completely unsocialized.”

It was clear that the dogs had to rely on each other since their owners weren’t giving them enough care.

Their owners surrendered the dog family, 7-year-old mama Lady and her 5-month-old puppies Peaches and Layla.

They were all relatively healthy, but lacking in confidence.

When the shelter staff had to do wellness checks and vaccinations for their mom first, the puppies had no idea what to do.

Left to their own devices, the dog siblings held on to each other for support.

The family is now slowly learning to relax in the shelter and trust the staff.

The puppies are still doing much better with their mom around, but they are slowly gaining confidence on their own.

Within a few days in the shelter, Lady can go on walks and meet new people. The puppies, meanwhile, are still very dependent on each other.

On a good note, they have been accepting of love and affection.

Hopefully, when Peaches and Layla become ready for adoption, they will go to the same home, so they can continue offering each other support.
