A professional dancer and performing arts teacher, Kelly Stevens, 26, from Chester, England, experienced a delightful surprise when her dog, Peanut, made an unexpected new friend.

The new neighbors brought along their pet labradoodle, who was keen on becoming buddies with Peanut right from the start.

“Their dog likes to hide under bushes so she pushed her way under our huge hedge that joins our houses. One day she was just there,” Stevens said.

Peanut, a miniature poodle border collie cross, was initially startled and anxious about the new presence.

“Peanut had the shock of her life when she went out and so did we,” Stevens said, describing the neighbor’s dog as “the most beautiful-natured dog” who was immediately curious and friendly towards Peanut.

Despite Peanut’s nervous barking and anxiety, the labradoodle didn’t give up on forming a friendship.

The neighbor’s dog kept returning to the fence, showing persistence and even bringing toys to Peanut, which Peanut would cheekily steal.

Stevens shared the endearing interactions on her TikTok account @kellyameliastevens1 in August, capturing moments where the labradoodle would stick her paw and snout through the fence to greet Peanut.

The video shows Peanut jumping backward and barking in surprise at her new friend’s sudden appearances.

But the neighbor’s dog was determined, and her efforts eventually paid off.

Peanut now eagerly awaits her friend’s visits and even cries if the labradoodle isn’t by the fence.

Stevens captioned the TikTok clip: “A real life Disney movie.”

She explained that Peanut initially ignored the neighbor’s dog despite the labradoodle’s efforts to sit and wait for her.

“Peanut didn’t initially like all the fuss the neighbor’s dog was getting off us. The dog started over the next few days just sitting there lying down and waiting for Peanut to come over but she would ignore her.”

Now, Peanut has grown so attached that she shows signs of distress if her buddy isn’t there.

“Whenever we would open the door and the neighbor’s dog wasn’t there, Peanut would start to cry.”

The bond between the dogs has also led to interactions between the human neighbors.

Stevens shared an amusing incident where the labradoodle stole a hat from her owners and brought it to Peanut, prompting the neighbors to crawl under the hedge to retrieve it.

The heartwarming story has garnered over 7,600 likes on TikTok, with users eagerly following the dogs’ friendship.

One commenter wrote, “Right I’m invested, I will be awaiting the rest of their story.”

Another added, “That is probably the cutest thing I’ve ever seen.”

Fans are hopeful for more updates and playdates, with one user asking, “Please tell me there is an upcoming play date at yours!”

For now, the friendship remains a “fence friendship,” but Stevens is optimistic about arranging a play date soon.

While Stevens and her dog have been fortunate with their neighbors, a survey from LendingTree reveals that nearly three-quarters of Americans dislike at least one of their neighbors, with 17 percent citing disruptive pets as the reason.

Stevens is thrilled by the positive response to Peanut’s video, saying, “Both dogs are adorable so it’s lovely to think that other people do, too.”

She added, “I spend hours watching dog videos, so it’s definitely something I would watch!”
