When she died on August 25, 2026, her death shocked many, but not those closest to the “Jolene” songstress. Her sister, Stella Parton, opened up to Gayle King on “CBS Mornings” and let her know that Dolly was prepared for her death.

Dolly Parton Felt ‘Peace’ at the End of Her Life

Stella Parton felt confident that Dolly was “at peace” when she passed away. The sisters shared a bond so deep that Stella could read Dolly’s emotions just by looking at her face, even through a screen.

“I could always tell by looking at her face, even if I hadn’t seen her in months. On camera, I could tell if she was hurt, angry, happy, or sad, or felt bad. I could see it on her.”

The sister added that Dolly Parton had no fear of dying. Instead, her faith helped ease the pain.

She lived her entire life with a huge heart and a love for others. Dolly Parton quite definitely practiced what she preached.

“She knew where she was goin’. She wasn’t goin’ anywhere bad. She was going to be with Mama and Daddy.”

When Dolly’s husband, Carl Dean, passed away, a large piece of her heart went with him. Though the pair shared a love that lasted decades, Stella doesn’t think that’s what made Dolly sick.

“I know their relationship was very unique and very deep and loyal. And I think it broke her heart to see him in the shape he, you know, got to before he passed away. But I don’t think that’s what made her sick. I think my sister worked so hard for so long and just kept going. You know, even to the last conversation I had with her, she was working. That was her passion.”

Knowing that Dolly Parton felt peace from faith and knowing she’d be with her parents and husband certainly eases the pain. There’ll never be another Dolly, and we are a better world because she was here.
